Pedro Pinho is a Portuguese film director, producer, and writer known for his unique and daring style of filmmaking. Born in Lisbon in 1985, Pinho began his career in television, directing the series “Sete Dias” for RTP. He then wrote and directed “The Nothing Factory”, his first feature film released in 2017.
The Nothing Factory was praised by critics for its “lyrical and daring” take on the life of workers in a Lisbon factory. It received numerous awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival and the Grand Prize at the BAFICI International Film Festival.
Pinho’s second feature film, “The Gulf”, was released in 2019 and was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film follows three women who work in a fish processing plant in a small Portuguese fishing village. It was praised for its “lyrical and poetic” take on the lives of the women in the factory and for its “incisive and tender” look at the struggles of the working class.
Pinho’s other films include “The Garden of the Finzi-Continis”, “Aqui Estamos Nós”, and “The Great Night”. In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Pinho is also a professor at the University of Lisbon, where he teaches film studies.
