Becoming Iphigenia - Nine Syrian women escape war
This compelling documentary follows the journey of nine Syrian women who have sought refuge in Germany, fleeing war and societal oppression. United by a modern adaptation of Euripides' Iphigenia, they take the stage at Berlin’s Volksbühne, portraying roles written by Mohammad al-Attar and directed by Omar Abusaada.
Through intimate access to the cast’s lives, Reem Al-Ghazzi captures their rehearsals, personal stories, and struggles. As the women navigate their lives outside the theater, they realize that escaping their past may be impossible, forcing them to confront not only their trauma but the identity they carry with them.
