Agnetha Fältskog (born 5 April 1950) is a Swedish singer, songwriter, musician and actress. She rose to international fame as a member of the 1970s pop group ABBA, which has sold over 380 million albums and singles worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
Fältskog was born in Jönköping, Sweden, and began her musical career at the age of 12 when she entered a local talent contest. She attracted the attention of musician/producer George de Godzinsky, who became her mentor and producer. In 1969, she released her debut album Agnetha Fältskog, which sold over a million copies in Sweden.
Fältskog continued to release solo albums throughout the 1970s, and also joined forces with Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad to form the group ABBA. The group became an international sensation, releasing a string of hits including “Dancing Queen”, “Fernando”, “Take a Chance on Me”, “The Winner Takes It All” and “Mamma Mia”.
In 1982, after ABBA had disbanded, Fältskog returned to her solo career, releasing her fifth studio album Wrap Your Arms Around Me. The album was a major success, selling over four million copies worldwide. She released two further albums in the 1980s, Eyes of a Woman (1985) and I Stand Alone (1987).
In the 1990s, Fältskog released two further studio albums, My Colouring Book (2004) and A (2013). She also reunited with ABBA for a series of television specials and live performances in the mid-2000s.
Fältskog has been awarded a number of accolades for her contributions to music, including the Swedish Music Hall of Fame in 2012 and a Polar Music Prize in 2013. She was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of ABBA in 2010.
Throughout her career, Fältskog has sold over 140 million records worldwide, and is one of the best-selling female artists of all time. She remains an icon of popular music, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
