Aitor Saavedra is a Spanish film director and screenwriter from the Basque Country. He is best known for his internationally acclaimed films, “The Invisible Guardian” (2017) and “The Olive Tree” (2016).

Saavedra developed an interest in film from a young age, and began making short films with his friends in the late 1990s. He studied film production at the University of the Basque Country, and graduated in 2002.

In 2004, Saavedra wrote and directed his first feature-length film, “The Invisible Guardian”. The film was a critical and commercial success, winning several awards including seven Goya Awards. It was also nominated for 13 Goya Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

In 2016, Saavedra wrote and directed his second feature-length film, “The Olive Tree”. The film was a box office success, and was nominated for six Goya Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

In 2018, Saavedra wrote, directed and produced the short film “The Last Hour”. The film was an official selection of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

In 2020, Saavedra wrote and directed his third feature-length film, “The Invisibles”. The film was a critical and commercial success, and was nominated for six Goya Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
