Alexander James McLean, better known as A. J. McLean, is a singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, and member of the pop group Backstreet Boys.
Born on January 9, 1978 in West Palm Beach, Florida, A.J. was the youngest of three children. He began singing and dancing at a young age, and at the age of five, he was already singing in his church choir.
A.J. moved to Orlando, Florida when he was ten, and at the age of twelve, he was cast as a performer in the Walt Disney World Christmas Parade. He also attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan, which helped lead to his career in the music industry.
A.J. was discovered by a talent scout in 1993, and the following year, he joined the Backstreet Boys, where he quickly became the group’s breakout star. The Backstreet Boys have since become one of the most successful boy bands in history, selling over 100 million records worldwide and being nominated for numerous awards.
In addition to his work with the Backstreet Boys, A.J. has also pursued a solo career. He released his solo debut album, Have It All, in 2002, and has released numerous other solo projects since then, including two full-length studio albums, two extended plays, and a live album.
Outside of music, A.J. has also had several acting roles, appearing in films such as The Chambermaid and Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, and on television shows such as Two and a Half Men and Game Shakers.
In addition to his career in the entertainment industry, A.J. is also active in philanthropic work. He is a spokesperson for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and is a spokesperson for the March of Dimes.
A.J. is currently married to his long-time girlfriend, Rochelle Karidis, and the couple have two children together.
