Angel Giovanni Hoyos is a Colombian-American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his films “La Pelea de Mi Vida” (2018), “The Perfect Stranger” (2017), and “The Living” (2016).
Hoyos was born in Colombia to a single mother. His father was absent from his life, and his mother worked hard to provide for him and his siblings. When he was five, his family moved to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, New York.
Hoyos attended Brooklyn College and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production. During his studies, he interned at NBCUniversal, working as a production assistant and camera operator for shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
After graduating, Hoyos worked for a television production company and eventually landed a job as a director with the company, directing short films and commercials.
In 2016, Hoyos wrote, produced, and directed his first feature film “The Living,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film received positive reviews from critics and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature.
In 2017, Hoyos directed “The Perfect Stranger,” a thriller about a young man who is forced to confront his inner demons after a chance encounter with a mysterious woman. The film was praised for its suspenseful atmosphere and Hoyos’ masterful direction.
In 2018, Hoyos wrote, produced, and directed “La Pelea de Mi Vida,” a biopic about the life of Colombian boxer and trainer Luis Carlos Galán. The film was a box-office success and earned Hoyos an International Emmy Award.
Hoyos is currently working on his next project, a psychological thriller about two sisters in search of their missing father. He is also developing a biographical film about the life of Colombian Nobel Laureate Gabriel García Márquez.
