Barak Heymann is an Israeli documentary filmmaker and producer. He is best known for his work on the award-winning films Web Junkie (2014) and My Hero Brother (2017). Heymann’s work has been featured at major international film festivals, such as the Tribeca Film Festival, IDFA, and more.

Heymann was born in Israel in 1981. He grew up in a small town outside of Tel Aviv, and from a young age, he was passionate about film. He studied at the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem and graduated with honors in 2006.

After his studies, Heymann worked at various television production companies and as an editor for a number of projects. In 2009, he founded his own production company, Heymann Brothers Films, with his brother, Tomer Heymann.

Since its founding, Heymann Brothers Films has produced over a dozen films, including the feature documentaries Web Junkie (2014), which follows three Chinese teenagers in a Beijing rehab center for internet addiction, and My Hero Brother (2017), about a group of young Israelis with Down Syndrome who embark on a trekking trip in India.

Heymann’s films have received numerous awards and accolades, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize at the IDFA, and the Audience Award at the Hot Docs Film Festival.

Heymann has also written and directed several short films, including The Return (2011), about an Israeli soldier who must return home after a mission in Gaza, and The Young Lion (2013), about a young man struggling to break free from his family’s expectations of him.

Heymann is currently in post-production on his latest film, The Story of a Crime (2020), which is about a young woman who is wrongfully convicted of murder in Israel.

Heymann is an accomplished filmmaker and producer whose work has been featured around the world. His films have won numerous awards and have been praised for their powerful storytelling and raw emotion.
