Ben Lewis is a British film director, best known for his documentary films exploring the intersections of art, technology, and culture. He has directed a number of award-winning films including the critically acclaimed Who the Hell is Ben Lewis? (2017) and his follow-up, The Great Hack (2019).
Born and raised in London, Lewis first became interested in filmmaking at an early age. He studied at the University of Westminster where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Film & Video Production. It was here where he first began experimenting with documentary filmmaking.
After graduating, Lewis worked on a number of music videos, short films, and commercials. His first feature-length film was the award-winning documentary Who the Hell is Ben Lewis? (2017). The film explored the often-conflicting worlds of art and technology, and featured interviews with a range of leading artists, innovators, and thinkers.
Lewis’ follow-up film, The Great Hack (2019), was an investigative documentary exploring the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the implications of big data in the political landscape. The film premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was shortlisted for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
In addition to his work in film, Lewis has been an active figure in the British film industry. He has been a judge for the BAFTA Film Awards and served as a mentor for the British Film Institute’s "First Feature" program.
Lewis is currently in production on his next feature documentary, which will explore the future of artificial intelligence. The film is set for release in 2021.
