BIO

Dana Bonilla is a renowned filmmaker, director, editor, and producer. Born in New York City, Dana grew up with a passion for the art of filmmaking. She earned her B.A. in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania before attending the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where she earned her M.F.A. in Film and Television Production.

Dana’s first feature film, “The Book of Life”, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2008. The film, which was nominated for a Student Academy Award, tells the story of two young women from different backgrounds who form a bond over their shared love of books. The film was a critical success and went on to be shown at festivals around the world.

Since then, Dana has gone on to direct and produce numerous shorts, as well as two feature films. Her short films have been screened at numerous festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival. Her feature films, “The Door” and “The North Star”, have both been nominated for awards at the Tribeca Film Festival.

In addition to her filmmaking work, Dana has also been involved in various educational initiatives. She has been a guest lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, where she taught a course on screenwriting. She has also served as a mentor for the Tribeca Film Institute’s All Access program, which provides support and resources to underrepresented filmmakers.

Dana’s commitment to telling stories that reflect the diversity of the world around us is evident in her work. She is passionate about creating films that explore complex social issues in an honest and thoughtful way. Her films have been praised for their thoughtful and nuanced approach to storytelling.

Dana has been recognized for her work with numerous awards, including the Student Academy Award, the Tribeca Film Festival’s Best Narrative Feature Award, and the Berlin International Film Festival’s Teddy Award for Best Feature Film.

Dana continues to work to bring her stories to life. She is currently in post-production on her third feature film, “Golden Glasses”, which is set to be released in 2021.
