David Hildreth is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for his work on the films The Matrix, The Godfather Part III, American Gangster, and The Silence of the Lambs.

Hildreth was born on April 14,1955 in Los Angeles, California. He was raised in the valley and graduated from Hollywood High School in 1973. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, and received his bachelor's degree in film and television in 1979.

Hildreth started his career as a production assistant and worked his way up to become a production manager. In 1989, he made his directorial debut with the film The Godfather Part III, which was a box office success and earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.

In 1994, he directed the science fiction action film The Matrix, which was critically acclaimed and became an iconic movie of the decade. He followed this up with the crime drama American Gangster, which was nominated for two Academy Awards.

Hildreth's other directorial credits include the horror classic The Silence of the Lambs, the romantic drama The Notebook, and the biographical drama Ray. He has also produced films such as The Terminal and The Pursuit of Happyness.
