Hossein Rasti is an Iranian film director and screenwriter, best known for his work on the critically acclaimed feature films The Last Step (2012) and The Fish Fall in Love (2016).

Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1982, Rasti was raised in a family of filmmakers and storytellers. His father was a film director and his mother was a writer and theater director. From a young age, Rasti was exposed to cinema, and it wasn’t long before he developed an interest in filmmaking. He studied filmmaking at the Tehran University of Art, graduating in 2004.

Rasti’s first feature film was The Last Step, released in 2012. It was a box office hit in Iran, and was acclaimed by critics worldwide, winning several awards. The film tells the story of a woman struggling to find her place in society, and her journey of self-discovery. It’s a deeply personal story, and Rasti’s direction is praised for its subtlety and tenderness.

Rasti followed this success with The Fish Fall in Love (2016), a romantic drama about two Iranian scientists who fall in love against the backdrop of the Iran-Iraq War. The film was another critical success, and was nominated for numerous awards, including the prestigious Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Rasti has since gone on to direct several other films, including the 2018 drama A Piece of Bread, which won the Best Feature Film award at the Iranian Film Festival in Hollywood. He is currently in post-production on his latest feature, The Dream Hunter, which is due for release in 2021.
