Ines Thomsen is a German director, producer, and screenwriter. She is best known for her feature films, documentaries, and short films. Born in Essen, Germany in 1979, Thomsen developed a passion for filmmaking early on. She studied at the University of Television and Film Munich and the Hamburg Media School, graduating in 2007.

Thomsen's first feature film, "The Empty House" (2009), was an international success, winning numerous awards, including Best Director at the Venice International Film Festival. The film follows a young woman who is forced to confront the secrets of her past when she returns to her family's house in rural Germany.

Since then, Thomsen has gained critical acclaim for her work in both film and television. Her documentary, "Grossmutters Erbe" (2015), which follows an elderly woman's unexpected inheritance, won the German Film Prize for Best Documentary. Her short film, "Schwestern" (2017), won the Best Short Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Thomsen is a highly sought-after director, gaining a reputation for her unique visual style and her ability to tell stories with an emotional depth. Her latest feature film, "The Age of Innocence" (2018), was nominated for the European Film Awards and won the Best Film Award at the Munich Film Festival.

Thomsen is a passionate advocate for female filmmakers, and is an active member of the German Female Filmmakers Association. She also serves as a mentor for the "Women in Film and Television" program at the Hamburg Media School.
