Iván Roiz is a Mexican film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his work on the films Las Horas Muertas (2014), El Tigre (2016), and El Cazador de Sueños (2018).
Roiz was born in Mexico City in 1979. He began his career in film in 2001, working as a script supervisor on the feature film Rojo Amanecer, directed by Carlos Carrera. He later worked as a production assistant on a number of other films, including El Crimen del Padre Amaro (2002).
In 2005, Roiz wrote and directed his first short film, La Carrera, which was selected for inclusion in the International Film Festival of Guadalajara. Following this, he directed a number of other short films, including El Cazador de Sueños (2007) and La Historia de una Casa (2008).
In 2012, Roiz made his feature film debut with Las Horas Muertas, which he wrote and directed. The film was selected for inclusion in the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a nomination for the Caméra d'Or. It went on to win numerous awards at festivals around the world, including the Grand Prize at the Morelia Film Festival.
In 2016, Roiz wrote and directed El Tigre, a psychological thriller about a young man struggling to come to terms with his father's mysterious death. The film was selected for inclusion in the San Sebastian Film Festival, where it won the Silver Shell for Best Screenplay.
In 2018, Roiz wrote and directed his third feature film, El Cazador de Sueños, which tells the story of a young man who embarks on a quest to uncover the secrets of his family's past. The film was selected for inclusion in the Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award.
Roiz is currently developing a number of projects, including a television series for HBO. He is also in pre-production on his fourth feature film, which will be released in 2021.
