James Rogan is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He has directed, written and produced feature films, music videos, television commercials, and documentaries.
Rogan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1972. He was raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia and attended St. Joseph's University, where he double majored in Communications and Theatre. After college, Rogan moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career in the entertainment industry.
Rogan’s first feature film, “The Dogwalker”, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize in 2006. The film was distributed by Lionsgate and was released theatrically. Rogan followed up with a series of feature films including “The House of Usher”, “The Family”, and “The Darkest Hour”. All three films premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
In addition to directing feature films, Rogan has also directed music videos for artists such as The Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, and Mary J. Blige. His music video for the Black Eyed Peas' “Where Is the Love?” was nominated for a Grammy Award. Rogan has also directed a number of television commercials for brands such as Samsung, Apple, and Adidas.
Rogan also has several documentaries to his credit, including “The People Speak”, “The Lost Boys of Sudan”, and “The Invisible War”. The latter two documentaries were nominated for Academy Awards.
Rogan’s latest feature film, “The Birth of a Nation”, premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was awarded the Grand Jury Prize. The film was distributed by Fox Searchlight and was released theatrically.
Rogan is currently in post-production on his next feature film, “The Last Ride”, which is set to be released in 2021. He is also developing several television projects for various networks.
