Jeremy Kaplan is a director, producer and writer with a career spanning over two decades in the entertainment industry. He has worked on television series, feature films, and documentaries, and has won numerous awards for his work.
Kaplan was born in Toronto, Ontario and attended the York University Film Program, where he earned an MFA in Film Production. After graduating, he began working as an assistant director on various television shows before eventually directing his first feature film, The Light at the Edge of the World in 1996.
In the early 2000s, Kaplan wrote and directed several independent films, including the romantic comedy, Love Thy Neighbor and the short film, The Making of a Monster. In 2003, he was hired to direct the television series, The King of Queens. He worked on the show for five seasons, and was nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award.
Since then, Kaplan has gone on to direct feature films such as The Great Debaters, starring Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker, and Daddy’s Home, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. He has also directed episodes for popular TV series such as Modern Family, Arrested Development, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
In addition to his film and television work, Kaplan has also produced a number of documentaries, including the Emmy-nominated Aftermath: Population Zero, and the critically acclaimed feature documentary, Underwater Dreams.
Kaplan continues to be an active director and producer, and his work has been featured in major film festivals such as the Tribeca Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. He has also been honored with several awards, including the Directors Guild of Canada Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Feature Film, and the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Television Series.
