Katie Green is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and director. She has a knack for creating compelling stories that bring attention to overlooked issues and communities. Born in 1987 in Washington D.C., she grew up in a loving family and was exposed to a wide variety of art, film, and music. This exposure sparked a passion for telling stories from unique perspectives.
Katie attended the University of Maryland where she graduated with a degree in Media Studies. After college, she worked as a production assistant for a few years before deciding to pursue her dream of becoming a documentary filmmaker. She applied and was accepted into the competitive Documentary Program at the University of California, Berkeley. There, she honed her craft and earned her M.F.A.
After graduating in 2013, she began working on her first feature-length documentary, “Lucha Mexico”. The film follows the lives of four professional Mexican wrestlers and captures the beauty and struggle of the sport. The film was critically acclaimed and won numerous awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
Since then, Katie has directed several more documentary films, including “The Eagle Huntress”, “The Invisible War”, and “The Hunting Ground”. All of her films have been well-received and have earned her several awards, including the Excellence in Documentary Filmmaking award at the Sundance Film Festival.
Katie has also worked as a producer and director on many television series, including the Emmy-nominated “America Divided”. She has also produced and directed short films for organizations such as the United Nations and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Katie’s work has been recognized by many organizations, including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awarded her one of its Oscars in 2020.
