Kiko Goifman is a Brazilian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his critically acclaimed films such as “The Year My Parents Went on Vacation” (2006), “Eu Receberia as Piores Notícias dos Seus Lindos Lábios” (2009), and “Mãe Só Há Uma” (2015).
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Goifman grew up in a family of filmmakers. His grandmother, Tereza Goifman, was one of the first women to join the Brazilian film industry. His father, Carlos Goifman, was a director and his mother, Gloria Goifman, was an actress. He credits his parents for introducing him to the world of filmmaking and inspiring him to pursue a career in the industry.
Goifman studied film at the Rio de Janeiro State University and the State University of Campinas. After graduating, he began working as a director and editor for television. His first short film, “Todo Dia” (2003), was selected to be part of the Cannes Film Festival Cinéfondation selection.
In 2006, Goifman released his first feature film, “The Year My Parents Went on Vacation.” The film, which starred Michel Joelsas, won numerous awards, including the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and the Latin American Film Critics Prize.
In 2009, Goifman released his second feature film, “Eu Receberia as Piores Notícias dos Seus Lindos Lábios.” The film was a critical success and was nominated for numerous awards, including the Golden Globe and the César Award.
In 2013, Goifman released his third feature film, “Mãe Só Há Uma.” The film, which starred Isabelle Drummond and Selton Mello, was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Goifman has also produced and directed several documentaries, including “Aquarius” (2015) and “The Drowned and the Saved” (2016).
Goifman is currently working on his fourth feature film, “Eu Sei Quem Me Matou.” The film is set to be released in 2018.
