BIO

Luca Magi is an Italian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for directing the Italian films The Book of Vision (2015), which won the David di Donatello Award for Best Film, and Suburra (2015), which won the Nastro d'Argento Award for Best Film.

Born in Rome, Italy, in 1978, Luca Magi began his career in film as a production assistant in the late 1990s, working on several documentaries and television shows. He then worked as an assistant director on several feature films, including Giuseppe Piccioni’s La bella vita (1994).

In 2003, Magi wrote and directed his first feature film, Il dolce prurito, which won the Nastro d'Argento Award for Best New Director. The film received critical acclaim and launched Magi’s career as a director.

He followed this success with the film L’amore ritorna (2006), which won the Nastro d’Argento Award for Best Screenplay. His next film, The Book of Vision (2015), was a critical and commercial success, receiving numerous awards, including the David di Donatello Award for Best Film.

Magi then directed the crime drama Suburra (2015), which was released to critical acclaim and was awarded the Nastro d’Argento Award for Best Film. The film was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.

In 2018, Magi wrote and directed his most recent film, Notti magiche. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but was a box office success. Magi followed this up with the film Una vita spericolata (2018), which was released to critical acclaim and was nominated for several awards, including the David di Donatello Award for Best Film.

Magi is currently developing his next project, a biopic of the renowned Italian poet and author, Giovanni Pascoli. He is also working on a series for Netflix that is set to be released in 2021.

Throughout his career, Magi has been lauded by critics for his visual style and his focus on character-driven storytelling. He has proven himself to be one of Italy’s most talented filmmakers, and his films have garnered numerous awards and nominations.
