Luisa Sossa is a Colombian film director, producer, and screenwriter. She was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1971. She is best known for her award-winning films, “La Llorona” (The Weeping Woman) and “La Paz” (The Peace).
Sossa studied sociology at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá before beginning her career in the film industry. She worked as a production assistant, assistant director, and assistant editor before eventually becoming a director. She was a founding member of the Bogotá-based production company, Rodar y Rodar Cine.
Sossa’s first feature film was “La Llorona,” which was released in 2005. The film was a critical success, receiving numerous awards and nominations, including a nomination for Best Latin American Film at the 2006 Goya Awards.
In 2009, Sossa released her second feature film, “La Paz,” which was also critically acclaimed. The film tells the story of a small town in Colombia that is thrown into turmoil when a group of guerrillas moves in. The film received several awards, including the Best Colombian Film Award at the 2010 Cartagena Film Festival.
In addition to her feature films, Sossa has directed several short films, including “The End” (2008), “The Last Concert” (2010), and “The Girl from the Mountain” (2012). She has also produced a number of documentaries, including “The War of Water” (2009) and “The Invisible War” (2012).
Sossa is an active member of the Colombian film industry and has served as a jury member for several film festivals, including the Bogotá International Film Festival. She has also served as a mentor for budding filmmakers in Colombia.
