Manuel von Stürler is a Swiss film director, producer and screenwriter. He has directed and/or produced films such as “Die Herbstzeitlosen” (2005), “The Last Train” (2008) and “My Father’s Garden” (2016). He has also won awards for his work, including the Swiss Film Award for Best Director and the Swiss Film Award for Best Film.
Manuel was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1976. He graduated from the Zurich University of the Arts in 2002 with a degree in film and video. After graduation, he worked as an assistant director and editor for various Swiss films. In 2005, he made his directorial debut with “Die Herbstzeitlosen”, which won the Swiss Film Award for Best Director.
In 2006, Manuel wrote and directed his second feature film, “The Last Train”. The film was a commercial success and won the Swiss Film Award for Best Film. In 2009, he wrote, directed and produced his third feature film, “The Last Summer”. The film garnered critical acclaim and won the Swiss Film Award for Best Film.
In 2011, Manuel directed the critically acclaimed drama “Winter’s Tale”. The film won the Swiss Film Award for Best Film and earned Manuel his third Swiss Film Award for Best Director. In 2016, he wrote, directed and produced the drama “My Father’s Garden”. The film was nominated for six Swiss Film Awards and won two, including Best Director.
Manuel is currently working on his fifth feature film, “The Teacher”. The film is scheduled to be released in 2020.
Manuel has gained recognition for his thought-provoking films and his unique visual style.
