Nebojša Slijepčević is a Serbian film director and screenwriter. He was born in Sarajevo in 1971, and grew up in Belgrade, Serbia. He graduated from the Belgrade Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1996 and has since gone on to direct and write numerous films.
His directorial debut was the 2001 feature film, “The White Suit”, which won the Grand Prix at the Belgrade International Film Festival. This success was followed by other critically acclaimed feature films such as “The Trap” (2003) and “Ordinary People” (2006). His most recent feature film, “The Parade” (2011), was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
Slijepčević is regarded as a master of dark comedy, often exploring themes such as national identity, political corruption, and personal relationships. His films frequently have a strong sense of realism, often using non-professional actors and unscripted dialogues. He also has an interest in exploring the absurdities of everyday life, which is often reflected in his films’ humor.
Slijepčević is also active in the theater and television industries. He has directed and written for several television series, including “Walkover” (2012-2013) and “The Last Bus” (2015). He has also directed numerous plays for the Yugoslav Drama Theatre in Belgrade.
Slijepčević has received numerous awards and accolades for his work. He has won the Best Director Award at the Belgrade International Film Festival twice, and was nominated for Best Director at the European Film Awards in 2008. He has also been awarded the Order of St. Sava, which is the highest honor given by the Serbian Orthodox Church.
