Nina Urumov is a Bulgarian film director and screenwriter, born in 1979. She is best known for her feature films, such as The Color of the Chameleon (2018), which was selected for the Cannes International Film Festival.
Urumov studied film direction at the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria. Upon graduating in 2004, she began her career as a film director by making a series of short films, which received critical acclaim at several international film festivals.
In 2008, her debut feature film, The Color of the Chameleon, was released. The film tells the story of a young man living in Bulgaria during the communist regime of the 1980s. It won numerous awards, including the Golden Rose award at the Bulgarian National Film Festival, and was screened at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2018.
Since releasing The Color of the Chameleon, Urumov has directed a number of other feature films, including The Sea (2010) and The Question (2014). She has also been involved in several documentaries, including Behind the Wall (2012) and The Last Train (2015).
In addition to her work as a director and screenwriter, Urumov has also been active in teaching and mentoring young filmmakers. She has served as a mentor for the European Short Pitch program, which provides funding and support for emerging filmmakers, and has lectured at numerous universities in Europe and the United States.
