Linda Jablonská is a Czech film director, producer, and screenwriter. She was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1971 and grew up in a small town outside of the city. She began her career in the Czech film industry in the early 1990s and quickly became one of the most acclaimed directors of her generation.
Jablonská’s first feature film, Ztraceni v Mníšku (Lost in Mníšek), was released in 1995 and was a major success in the Czech Republic. She went on to direct two more feature films, Příběhy Obyčejného Života (Stories of Ordinary Life) and Nesvatbov (Unmarried). She also produced and wrote several short films, including her award-winning film Poslední Noc v Divadle (The Last Night at the Theatre).
In 2008, Jablonská was chosen to direct the Czech-Slovak film adaptation of the novel Válka s mloky (War with the Newts). This film was a huge success, winning several awards, including the Czech Lion for Best Film. Following the success of War with the Newts, Jablonská directed her first full-length feature film, Kousek Nebe (A Piece of Heaven). This film received the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2011.
In addition to her film work, Jablonská is an active member of the Czech film community. She is the president of the Czech Film and Television Academy, and has served as a jury member for numerous international film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival.
Jablonská’s work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Czech Lion for Best Director and the Czech Film Critics’ Award. She has also been awarded the Czech Republic’s highest cultural honor, the Order of Merit.
Jablonská continues to make films that explore the relationship between Czech culture and the global world. Her work is acclaimed for its authentic, honest portrayals of human relationships and the complexity of modern life.
