James Bluemel is an English director, writer, and producer. He is best known for his work on the acclaimed BBC drama series Killing Eve, which he has directed since its second season.
Bluemel was born in London and raised in East Sussex, England. He attended the University of Sussex where he studied History and Politics. After graduating, he worked as a producer and director for several television and film projects, including The Bill, The Catherine Tate Show, and The Hour.
In 2011, Bluemel made his feature film debut with The Somnambulists, which was nominated for the Best British Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. He followed this up with the short film Vera, which won the Best British Short at the London International Film Festival.
Bluemel continued to work on television projects, including producing and directing episodes of the BBC drama series The White Queen. He then directed the Sky Atlantic drama series Fortitude, and also served as an executive producer.
