BIO

Pierre de Lespinois is a French film director, writer, and producer who has been in the film industry since the early 1990s. He is best known for his work on the films The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007), The Class (2008), and The Artist (2011). He has also directed several short films and television series.

De Lespinois was born in Paris, France in 1965. He studied film at the Paris Conservatory of Dramatic Arts and graduated in 1989. After graduation, he worked as an assistant director for several French films before making his directorial debut with the 1995 film The Door. This film received critical acclaim and was nominated for several awards.

In 2000, De Lespinois directed the critically-acclaimed The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, which won multiple awards and nominations, including the Academy Award for Best Director. Following this success, he directed the 2008 film The Class, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

He then directed the 2011 The Artist, which became the first silent film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture since Wings (1927). It was also nominated for nine other Academy Awards, including Best Director.

De Lespinois has since directed and produced several other films and television series, including the 2014 film Two Days, One Night, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes. He is currently working on his next project, an adaptation of the novel The Price of Admisson.

De Lespinois is known for his unique visual style and for his ability to make films that are both visually stunning and emotionally powerful. His films have been praised for their nuanced portrayals of characters and their ability to explore difficult subjects. He is widely regarded as one of the most talented directors of our time.
