Sara Leavitt is a film director, producer, and screenwriter known for her innovative use of visual storytelling. She has directed a number of short films, including the award-winning "The Other Side of the Mirror" which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
Sara was born in Los Angeles, California, where she grew up in a creative, diverse family. From a young age, she was drawn to visual storytelling, often creating her own stories using her dad’s Super 8 camera. In college, she studied film production and film studies, graduating from the University of Southern California in 2006.
After graduating, Sara quickly established herself as an independent filmmaker. Her first feature film, "The Other Side of the Mirror," was accepted into the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize for Best Short Film. She followed this success with a series of award-winning short films, including "The Waiting Room," which was the winner of the New Visions Award in 2011.
Sara’s most recent feature film, "Fragile," was released in 2017. It was an official selection at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival, and was named one of the 10 Best Films of the Year by The New York Times.
In addition to her film work, Sara has also directed music videos for various artists, including Moby, Cold War Kids, and Fitz and the Tantrums. She is also a founding member of the Los Angeles Film Collective, a collective of filmmakers dedicated to exploring new approaches to filmmaking.
