Timothy Sternberg is an American film director and writer who has contributed to the world of cinema for more than two decades. He is best known for his films “The House of Yes” (1997), “Jack & Diane” (2012), and “Thoroughbreds” (2017).
Sternberg was born in California in 1972 and grew up in suburban Washington, D.C. He began his career as a director in the early 1990s, working on music videos for a variety of artists including Janet Jackson, the Beastie Boys, and the Smashing Pumpkins. He then made his feature-length debut with the comedy “The House of Yes” in 1997. The film, which starred Parker Posey and Josh Hamilton, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was a critical and commercial success.
In 2003, Sternberg directed the independent feature “Goodbye Baby”, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Slamdance Film Festival. He then worked on several television projects, including directing episodes of “Ugly Betty” and “Gossip Girl”.
In 2012, Sternberg released his second feature film, “Jack & Diane”, starring Juno Temple and Riley Keough. The film was a critical success and earned him his second Grand Jury Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Sternberg’s most recent feature film, “Thoroughbreds”, was released in 2017. The dark comedy, which starred Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke, was praised by critics and won the Best Director award at the Nashville Film Festival.
