BIO

Xavier Artigas is a Spanish film director and screenwriter best known for his films El Desconocido (2015) and El Autor (2017). He was born in Barcelona in 1978 and studied filmmaking at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.

Since his graduation in 2004, Artigas has worked on numerous short films, music videos and television series. His films have been shown at film festivals across the world, including the Cannes Film Festival and the San Sebastián International Film Festival.

In 2015, Artigas released his first feature film, El Desconocido (The Unknown). The film follows a young Spanish man who is forced to confront his past when he returns home after years of exile in Argentina. The film was praised for its realism and nuanced exploration of identity, and it was selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section.

In 2017, Artigas released his second feature film, El Autor (The Author). The film tells the story of a Spanish writer struggling to finish his novel after the death of his father. The film is an exploration of the creative process and the power of memory. It was praised for its intimate portrait of grief and the beauty of its images.

In addition to his work as a director, Artigas has written several scripts for films and television series. He is currently working on his third feature film, which is set to be released in 2021.
