Abraão Kimberley is a Brazilian filmmaker and director, born on October 24, 1990 in São Paulo, Brazil. He studied at the University of São Paulo's School of Communications and Arts and graduated in 2012.
He began his career in the film industry as an assistant director for the Portuguese director José Fonseca e Costa in 2013. From 2014 to 2016, he worked as an assistant director in the film industry in São Paulo. In 2016, he directed his first short film, "A Casa", which was released in the 2018 São Paulo International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Short Film.
In 2018, Abraão directed his first feature film, "A Vida Que Tivemos". The film was widely acclaimed, winning several awards, including the São Paulo International Film Festival's audience award and the San Francisco International Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize. The film also earned Abraão two nominations for the Brazilian Academy of Cinema Awards, for Best Director and Best Film.
In 2020, Abraão directed his second feature film, "O Despertar do Céu". The film was an official selection of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival and won the Grand Prix at the 2020 Marrakech International Film Festival. The film received critical acclaim, with reviews praising Abraão's direction and the performances of the cast.
Abraão is currently working on his third feature film, "A Terra da Fé". His other works include the 2020 documentary "Animais de Voz", which was an official selection of the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival, and "A Vida que Eu Quero", a short film which won the Grand Prize at the 2019 São Paulo International Film Festival.
Abraão is known for his unique vision, combining elements of drama, comedy, and surrealism in his films. He is currently one of the most prominent directors in the Brazilian film industry.
